China Walker, the magnetic voice and one-half of the explosive West Coast rap duo Cam & China, has passed away at the age of 32 following a private, two-year battle with a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer.
Her passing leaves a void in the world of women’s hip hop, particularly in the Los Angeles underground where her name rang loud with lyrical fire and fearless authenticity.
A Voice That Couldn’t Be Ignored
Hailing from Inglewood, California, China first entered the scene with her twin sister Cam as part of the girl group Pink Dollaz — but it was their rebrand as Cam & China that made industry tastemakers and hip-hop heads alike pay attention.
Their music quickly gained traction with tracks like “Run Up”, “Naked”, and viral freestyles that showcased sharp bars, gritty beats, and magnetic synergy. Their sound was bold, polished, and unapologetically street — blending feminine energy with battle-ready delivery.
They were featured on HBO’s Insecure, praised in outlets like LA Weekly and Pitchfork, and heralded as the next wave of women changing the game.
“We don’t sugarcoat anything,” China once told Pitchfork.“We tell our stories from deep inside.”
Quiet Battles, Loud Legacy
On July 2, 2025, Cam confirmed that China had passed away after quietly fighting a rare form of ovarian cancer — a battle few outside their inner circle knew about.
“Most don’t know, China has been fighting a rare aggressive ovarian cancer for 2 years… Tonight, she transitioned and is now resting peacefully… Check on yo people, you never know what they are going through until it’s too late,” Cam shared in a heartfelt Instagram post.
Even while privately battling for her life, China stayed active musically. The duo’s 2023 EP "WE GONE MAKE IT" now stands as a powerful part of her final legacy.
Fans & Artists React
Tributes poured in across social media from fellow artists, fans, and hip-hop writers who long considered Cam & China to be one of LA’s best kept secrets.
One user wrote on Reddit:
“She was one of the best doing it. Cam & China were underrated but unforgettable.”
Others described her death as “gut-wrenching,” noting the lack of attention Black women receive when lost too soon — even those with undeniable talent and influence.
